Remote Learning

The staff have worked tirelessly in ensuring that if your child is self-isolating or if we go in to a national lockdown and the children are learning from home, that their learning continues. It has been a sharp learning curve and staff have had to adapt and learn to do their job in a new way in a short time period, whilst also dealing with other pressures that come with teaching. We know that no one way will suit all the needs of all our children and our families.  We hope that the blended approach that we offer helps all our families to continue their learning at home to the best of their ability.

What you will need at home

  • Your child will need a device that can access the internet, such as a laptop, desktop, computer, tablet, x-box, PS4 or smartphone. If access to a digital device is limited, then as long as you have a smart phone to view the lesson and activities on Google Classroom, then your child can simply complete the activities on blank paper and a parent can send the completed work to the class teacher via Class Dojo.

  • An adult to support with accessing resources and with completion of learning activities (this will depend on the age of children and their ability to access work independently)

  •   An exercise book or lined paper for writing out and working out.

  •   Stationary - pencils, colouring pens/pencils, rubber, ruler etc

  •   Printed worksheets if you have access to a printer and/or if provided by the school/teacher.

  •   If possible, a quiet space where they can work without interruption.

What we expect from your child

It is important that your child engages with home learning. We recommend that your child follows the timetable set by the class teacher.

If they are not engaging with the learning, we will use the following strategies to provide additional support:

  •   Phone call home

  •   Class dojo messages

What you can do to help

We appreciate that this does present some challenges for you. We kindly ask for your support so that we can continue to provide high-quality education for your child during this time.

Younger children in particular may need support in accessing online materials and staying focused with their remote learning. We ask that you help them as much as you can.

At the same time, we do not expect you to watch your child in learning all day, and we wouldn’t expect parents/carers to get involved in remote lessons in place of our teachers. But, it would be really helpful if you can take an active role in your child’s learning by asking them about their day and what they’ve learned.

Our top tips:

  •   Try to encourage your child to be ready and dressed for the start of the school day, and to keep to their timetable.

  •   Distinguish between weekdays and weekends, and make it clear when the school day is over, to separate home and school life

  •   Plan breaks and exercise into the day to help keep your child active
